About Nepal

Nepal
Nepal (28.00N, 84.00E) is a landlocked country in southeast Asia, sandwiched between Tibet and India. There are about 29 million people living in Nepal of which 1,5 million in the capital Kathmandu. An additional 1,5 million people live in the Kathmandu valley. Of those 29 million 40% are in the age group 0 – 14 years. Nepal is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world. The average income is slightly over $ 200,- per year! The unemployment percentage is 42% and 31% of the population lives (far) below the poverty line.

Nepal is, however, one of the most beautiful countries in the world (yes, you may accuse us of being prejudice). Seven of the ten highest mountains can be found in Nepal with Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) peaking at 8848 metres.
