About us

Our roots go back to 1997 at which time the Association VONK was established. VONK started as a social organization of parents who have adopted a child (or children) from Nepal. All these children come from Bal Mandir (translates as children’s temple), the largest orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Soon after VONK’s inception we decided to support orphans from Bal Mandir who, for whatever reason, were not adopted. Only in 1999 were we able to carry out our plans. Since the number of projects grew rapidly with budgets accordingly, a dedicated NGO was established in 2000: Stichting VONK Projecten (Foundation VONK Projects).

VONK’s board consists solely of professional volunteers and we have no paid staff in The Netherlands. This enables us to keep our overheads to virtually zero; all funds we raise we spend in our projects in Nepal.
